ROHTO’s first doors opened in 1899 as Shintendo Yamada Anmin Pharmacy, a small family drugstore run by Yasutami Yamada in Osaka, Japan. The company was a pioneer in over-the-counter medicines and consumer healthcare products. Fifty years later, the pharmacy became ROHTO Pharmaceutical Company, Ltd.

Mentholatum was founded in 1889 in Wichita, Kansas. Starting out as small purveyor of soaps and toiletries, Mentholatum grew into an international manufacturer and marketer of non-prescription drugs with a reputation for quality and value. In 1988, ROHTO Pharmaceutical Company, Ltd. acquired The Mentholatum Company, Inc.

Today, the combined ROHTO group has established 23 companies worldwide with products available to consumers in more than 130 countries. The ROHTO and Mentholatum names are synonymous with the highest standards of quality and innovation.
